On January 18, 2025, the government announced the relocation of eight teachers and the sole student from Mugwande Secondary School in Kirinyaga County to other schools. This decision comes in response to the school’s severe enrollment crisis, which left it with only one student and eight teachers.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has been working to address the issue, but the prolonged absence of a school principal led many parents to transfer their children to other institutions. The government’s move aims to ensure that the teachers can continue their work and the student receives proper education.
Efforts are ongoing to find a long-term solution for the school, including proposals to repurpose it into a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) center or a teacher training college.
