A family in Runyenjes, Embu County, is mourning the tragic death of their 15-year-old son, Shelton Caleb, a Form Two student at St. Francis Kanja Secondary School. Shelton succumbed to injuries sustained during an altercation with a schoolmate earlier this week.
According to the family, Shelton was injured in the arm during the fight and was rushed to a local hospital on Tuesday, January 21. His condition deteriorated rapidly, and he was eventually transferred to Radiant Hospital in Nairobi, where he passed away while awaiting surgery.
The family has expressed frustration over the lack of communication from the school administration. Despite an earlier agreement between Shelton’s mother, Leah Kiema, and the school principal to discuss the incident, the family found themselves locked out of the school when they arrived. Attempts to contact the principal went unanswered.
“We just want the truth. We cannot mourn in peace until we know what really happened,” said a distraught family spokesperson. The Embu OCPD, Anthony Maina, confirmed that a report on Shelton’s death has been filed and assured the family that investigations are ongoing.
The family is now seeking justice and answers to understand the exact cause of Shelton’s death. They have accused the school of withholding crucial information and expressed frustration at the lack of transparency.
As the community rallies behind the grieving family, the hope is that the investigation will bring clarity and justice for Shelton Caleb.
