President William Ruto has appointed a nine-member selection panel for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). This panel is tasked with overseeing the recruitment of nominees for the positions of chairperson and members of the IEBC. The appointment was made via a Special Gazette Notice after nearly a three-year delay caused by numerous court and political disputes.
The newly appointed members include Kiome Lindah Gakii, Oloo Adams, James Evans Misati, Nicodemus Kipchirchir Bore, Ambassador Koki Muli Grignon, Carolene Kituku Tanui, Andrew Kipkoech, Nelson Makanda, and Fatuma Saman. The panel will be sworn in at the Supreme Court buildings, with Chief Justice Martha Koome presiding over the ceremony.
This move sets the stage for a revamped IEBC, as the panel begins identifying qualified individuals to fill these pivotal roles. The appointment comes after a High Court ruling lifted previous court orders that had halted the appointments.
