President William Ruto departed Kenya on January 28, 2025, to attend the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The summit, known as Mission 300, is a collaborative effort hosted by the Government of Tanzania, the African Union, the African Development Bank Group, and the World Bank Group. It aims to accelerate energy access across the African continent, with a goal of providing electricity to 300 million people by 2030.
President Ruto was seen off at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Vice Chief of Defence Forces Lt General John Omenda. Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo was also present at the departure.
The summit will focus on strategies to enhance energy access in underserved regions, promote renewable energy, improve energy efficiency, and mobilize private sector investment. Several countries are expected to unveil National Energy Compacts, outlining ambitious targets and key reforms tailored to their unique contexts.
The event underscores the urgent need for reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy to drive economic growth and unlock development across Africa. The partnerships and commitments made during the summit will shape the continent’s journey toward achieving universal energy access, transforming millions of lives, and driving sustainable development and job creation.
