Police IG Douglas Kanja and DCI Boss Mohammed Amin Appear in Court Over Missing Persons Case

Police IG Douglas Kanja and DCI boss Mohammed Amin appear in court.

On January 30, 2025, Police Inspector General Douglas Kanja and Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohammed Amin appeared in court to address inquiries regarding the disappearance of three individuals who were allegedly abducted in Mlolongo, Machakos. The court order was issued following multiple failed attempts to summon the two senior officers to provide information about the missing persons.

The case, brought forward by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), sought to compel Kanja and Amin to produce the missing individuals, identified as Justus Mutumwa, Martin Mwau, and Kalani Muema. The abductions reportedly occurred on December 16, 2024, and have since drawn significant public attention and concern.

Justice Chacha Mwita, who presided over the case, had previously ordered the two officers to appear in court to explain the whereabouts of the missing persons. Despite initial resistance and failure to comply with earlier summons, Kanja and Amin eventually presented themselves before the court on the scheduled date.

During the court proceedings, Kanja reiterated his respect for the rule of law and assured the court of his commitment to resolving the abduction cases. He stated that investigations were at an advanced stage and that any individuals found responsible for the abductions would be brought to justice.

The court’s directive to Kanja and Amin underscores the importance of accountability and transparency within law enforcement agencies. The outcome of this case will be closely watched by the public and legal experts alike, as it highlights the challenges and responsibilities faced by those in positions of authority.
