Naivasha, January 31, 2025 – A tragic accident occurred at Kedong Ranch in Naivasha on Thursday, January 30, 2025, when a light aircraft crashed, claiming the lives of both occupants. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) confirmed that the crash involved a Cessna 185 aircraft, registration number 5Y-BVL, which had taken off from Wilson Airport in Nairobi earlier that day.
The ill-fated flight was en route to Mbaruk when it crashed at approximately 5:14 PM. According to Naivasha OCPD Charles Mwai, rescue operations were hampered by poor terrain and adverse weather conditions, which extended the operation into the night. Despite these challenges, the wreckage was eventually located, and the two victims were identified as Marcus Dunn and Anne Dunn.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, with aviation experts from the KCAA and other relevant authorities working to determine what led to the crash. This incident is a stark reminder of the inherent risks associated with air travel, especially in challenging environments.
The KCAA has extended its deepest condolences and assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted to prevent such tragedies in the future.
