A tragic accident occurred on the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway near Limuru, resulting in the deaths of two people on Tuesday February 3. The accident involved a Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) vehicle and a Probox car transporting milk.
According to eyewitnesses, the Probox car was heading towards Nairobi and attempted to overtake another vehicle when it collided head-on with the KENHA vehicle. The occupants of the Probox car, unfortunately, lost their lives, while those in the KENHA vehicle sustained minor injuries.
Limuru Police Commander Mary Gachie confirmed the incident and urged motorists to adhere to traffic rules to prevent such tragedies. She stated, “The vehicle coming from Naivasha towards Nairobi overtook carelessly and collided head-on with an oncoming KENHA vehicle”.
Residents of the area have called on the government to expand and complete the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway, citing the frequent accidents that have claimed many lives. “We are asking the government to kindly expand this road because this Rironi-Mau Summit is too narrow, and the number of accidents here is alarming,” a concerned resident lamented.
The bodies of the deceased have been moved to Tigoni Hospital mortuary, and the wreckage of the two vehicles has been towed to Tigoni Police Station. This incident adds to the rising number of road accidents in Kenya, despite continued efforts by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to enforce traffic laws and educate motorists on safe driving practices.
