Man Fatally Shot During Robbery in Maralal

 

On the morning of February 6, 2025, a tragic incident occurred in Ngano village, Poro location, Maralal, Samburu County. Leonard Lendunda, a 23-year-old man, was shot dead by armed robbers who raided a home in an attempt to steal cows.  According to police reports, Lendunda stepped out of his house after hearing commotion outside and was shot in the left side of his chest, leading to his immediate death.

The attackers managed to drive away five cows from the compound before fleeing the scene. However, local members of the National Police Reserve (NPR) responded to the gunshots and pursued the gang. The NPR team ambushed the robbers near the Opiroi area, resulting in a shootout that forced the bandits to abandon the stolen animals. The cows were later returned to their owner.

Police have launched an investigation into the murder and are working to apprehend the gang responsible for the attack. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of banditry and cattle rustling in the region, despite government efforts to curb such activities.
