Fatal Collision on Nakuru- Eldoret Highway Claims 12 Lives

A tragic accident occurred on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway in the early hours of March 14, 2025, resulting in the loss of 12 lives. The incident took place in the Migaa area when a trailer carrying coffee seeds lost control and collided head-on with a 14-seater matatu. The trailer, which was heading towards Eldoret, experienced brake failure while approaching a notorious black spot on the highway.

The collision was devastating, with all 11 passengers in the matatu and the driver of the trailer losing their lives on the spot. The matatu was left completely wrecked, with broken windows, deflated tires, and significant damage to its structure. The trailer also sustained considerable damage to its front side.

Emergency responders, including officers from the Kenya Red Cross Society and the Nakuru Disaster Management team, arrived at the scene to assist in rescuing those trapped under the wreckage. The accident caused a massive traffic jam along the busy highway, forcing motorists to seek alternative routes.

Authorities have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. This was confirmed by Molo sub-county police commander Timon Odingo, who warned drivers to be extra careful. The tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for stringent measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
