A police officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Molo, Nakuru County, has been arrested following a shooting incident involving a boda boda rider on the night of March 28, 2025. The officer, identified as Sergeant James Kenei, is currently in police custody, and his firearm, a pistol loaded with 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition, has been confiscated.

The victim, Edwin Keitany, a 25-year-old boda boda rider, sustained severe injuries and is undergoing treatment at Nairobi Women’s Hospital in Nakuru. Medical reports indicate that Keitany suffered soft tissue injuries, with multiple bullet fragments lodged in his head. He is scheduled for brain surgery to remove the fragments.
The incident reportedly occurred after an altercation between the officer and a pillion passenger Keitany was transporting. According to the victim, the passenger had requested to be dropped off at her home in Ole Polos. Upon arrival, the officer confronted Keitany, accusing him of inappropriate conduct with his wife. The situation escalated, leading to the shooting.
Keitany has since recorded a statement with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), which is investigating the matter. The incident has sparked public outrage, with calls for justice and accountability for the misuse of firearms by law enforcement officers.
