On Sunday, March 30th, an unusual incident occurred along the Kathiani-Machakos road in Machakos County, Kenya, where a swarm of bees disrupted rescue operations at an accident site. The mishap involved a 14-seater van that lost control at the Kwa Kakonzi corner near Iveti Hills, struck a tree, and overturned. Fortunately, passengers sustained only minor injuries and were rushed to the hospital.
Efforts to rescue the trapped passengers were initially hindered by the aggressive bees, which indiscriminately attacked good Samaritans and firefighters attempting to assist at the scene. Firefighters from Machakos County had to use water from hosepipes to disperse the swarm, eventually managing to clear the way for the rescue operation to proceed.

Matthew Mulee, senior chief of Mumbuni location, confirmed the incident, emphasizing the unexpected challenges faced during the operation. Authorities suspect that the bees may have been disturbed, causing their aggressive behavior. Despite the disruption, all trapped passengers were successfully rescued, with no serious injuries reported among the rescuers or victims.
