In a tragic incident that occurred on the night of March 31st at around 10:48 PM, Monicah Chelangat, a 28-year-old resident of Kiptenden Sublocation, narrowly escaped a devastating fire at her father’s home. The three-bedroom semi-permanent house, constructed primarily of timber, went up in flames, resulting in a significant loss of property and livestock.
Ms. Chelangat, who was asleep alongside her child in the house, recounted being awakened by a heavy cloud of smoke. Upon exiting the house, she was startled to find her former boyfriend, identified as Wisley Kimtai, aged 41, standing outside armed with a machete (commonly known as a panga). Her screams reportedly caused the suspect to flee the scene.
Officers from Cheptalal Police Station, led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), responded to the distress call and visited the site to assess the situation. Their investigation confirmed the complete destruction of the timber-constructed three-bedroom home, household belongings, two plastic water tanks with capacities of 6,000 and 2,000 liters respectively, and a two-month-old calf.

Local authorities, including Edward Imbwaga Bomet County Police Commander, have verified the incident. Efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the suspect, who remains at large.
