In a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the murder of Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were, authorities have arrested another suspect in Nairobi’s Kibera slums. The suspect, identified as Amos Barasa Kasili, is believed to have played a crucial role in the assassination plot by providing transportation for the alleged gunman.
Barasa was apprehended in the Darajani area of Kibera following an intelligence-led operation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to being the rider of the motorcycle used to ferry the assassin from Parliament to the crime scene and back. He further disclosed that he was paid Ksh 50,000 for his involvement in the mission.
Authorities recovered the motorcycle from Barasa’s residence in Laini Saba, Kibera. The bike, with registration number KMFZ 413W, matches the description of the one captured on CCTV footage trailing the MP’s vehicle near Parliament before the attack. This forensic link strengthens the case against Barasa and other suspects already in custody.
Barasa’s arrest brings the total number of suspects detained in connection with the murder to 12. Among those previously arrested is Isaac Kuria, alias “Kush,” who was apprehended in Isebania near the Kenya-Tanzania border while allegedly attempting to flee the country. Kuria is suspected to have been directly involved in the assassination and was reportedly in communication with criminal networks coordinating his escape.
Barasa is expected to be presented in court on Thursday, May 15, as investigations continue.
