Authorities in Sotik Township, Bomet County, have uncovered a shocking case of illegal dog meat slaughter and sale. On Friday, May 16, 2025, Assistant Chief Madam Emma received intelligence regarding a villager suspected of butchering a dog and attempting to sell its meat to unsuspecting residents in the Chemagel and Kimase areas.
Acting swiftly on the report, police officers launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of 38-year-old suspect Richard Kigen. Upon searching his premises, officers discovered approximately 15 kilograms of red dog meat, neatly packaged in plastic bags. During interrogation, Kigen admitted that the meat was intended for sale and consumption by unsuspecting members of the public.
The suspect now faces charges under Section 2 of the Meat Act, Cap 356, for slaughtering an undeclared animal, as well as cruelty to animals. Bomet County Police Commander Edward Imbwaga confirmed the incident, warning residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to food safety.
