Authorities in Nairobi have arrested a 30-year-old man, Daniel Mori Mohere, suspected of impersonating a police officer in Soweto, Kayole. The suspect, along with two alleged accomplices, was apprehended during an intelligence-led operation conducted by undercover teams from Njiru and Kayole.
Acting on a tip-off, detectives launched a coordinated crackdown in Nyama Villa, Soweto, and Umoja Three–Kwa Maji, leading to the arrest. The suspect had reportedly been masquerading as a law enforcement officer, using police uniforms and government-issued items to extort money from unsuspecting members of the public.
Following the arrest, the suspect led officers to his residence, where authorities recovered assorted police uniforms, forged identification documents, and other government-issued items. Investigators are now working to determine the source of the uniforms and whether any serving officers may have been involved.

The arrest has raised concerns over rising crime in Nairobi’s Eastlands area, where residents have reported an increase in robberies, muggings, and home invasions. Authorities are intensifying investigations to establish whether the suspects are linked to a broader criminal network operating in the region.
The three suspects remain in custody and are expected to face charges, including impersonation, extortion, and possession of stolen government property, once investigations are concluded. The recovered items have been documented and secured as exhibits.
Residents have welcomed the arrests, expressing hope that the crackdown will help curb criminal activities in the area. Security agencies have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities.
