Nyandarua County was struck by tragedy on Monday, June 9, 2025, when a bus carrying tourists lost control and plunged into a ditch along the Ol Jororok–Nakuru road. The accident, which occurred in the Gichaka area, resulted in the deaths of six individuals, including four men, one woman, and a child.
According to Nyandarua County Commissioner Abdlisack Jardesa, the bus was en route to a hotel in Nyahururu when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to roll multiple times before coming to a devastating halt. The impact of the crash left the bus severely damaged, with its roof torn off, illustrating the force of the accident.
Eyewitnesses reported that the bus was moving smoothly before suddenly losing control, possibly due to adverse weather conditions. The accident occurred shortly after it started raining, leading investigators to consider weather and human error as potential causes.

In addition to the six fatalities, 27 other passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Nyahururu Hospital for urgent medical attention. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause of the crash and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Nyandarua County Police Commander Stella Cherono confirmed that 25 tourists have been accounted for, including the deceased persons. She also noted that three of the vehicle’s occupants are yet to be accounted for, but a search is currently underway.
