A devastating accident in Kinangop, Nyandarua County, claimed the lives of three individuals and left eight others injured in the early hours of June 15, 2025. The incident occurred when a speeding vehicle crashed into a police-led rescue operation at Chuma area, approximately three kilometers south of Kinangop Police Station.
According to reports, officers from Kinangop Police Station and the Traffic Department were responding to an earlier accident involving two motorcycles when tragedy struck. As the rescue efforts were underway, a silver Isuzu D-Max double cabin pickup, traveling at high speed, collided with a stationary police vehicle and a parked lorry, hitting several people at the scene, including police officers and civilians.

The impact resulted in the deaths of Sergeant Dickson Kilonzo, Police Constable Gilbert Makori, and Ben Wakivi, the driver of the Isuzu D-Max. The injured individuals were rushed to North Kinangop Mission Hospital for emergency treatment. Among them were law enforcement officers and civilians who had gathered to assist in the rescue operation.
Nyandarua County Commissioner Abdirisack Jaldesa described the incident as “a dark morning for the county” and assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash. Nyandarua County Police Commander Stella Cherono confirmed that the Kinangop Traffic Base Commander is leading the ongoing investigation, promising full transparency.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident, and further updates are expected as the inquiry progresses. The tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the dangers emergency responders face and the importance of road safety measures.
