Teacher Slain by Husband in Night of Rage

A quiet village in Bomet County has been left reeling after a horrific incident in which a 24-year-old female teacher was brutally hacked to death by her husband following a domestic altercation.

The tragedy unfolded on the night of July 29, 2025, in the Kiromwok area, where the victim’s body was discovered within the family compound, lying in a pool of blood. According to Bomet County Police Commander Edward Imbwaga, the woman sustained deep machete wounds to her head and hand, believed to have been inflicted with a panga.

The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Lenox Kipngeno Korir, reportedly fled the scene immediately after the attack. Police have launched an intensive manhunt, though the murder weapon has yet to be recovered. Commander Imbwaga emphasized the urgency of the search, urging members of the public to share any information that could lead to Korir’s arrest.

Preliminary investigations suggest the couple had a history of domestic disputes. Family members had previously attempted to mediate, but their efforts were unsuccessful. The victim, whose name was later confirmed as Jessica Chelangat, was a teacher at a local private academy and was widely respected for her dedication to education and youth empowerment.

The body was moved to Longisa County Referral Hospital Mortuary, where a postmortem will be conducted. Police are pursuing leads on the suspect’s possible hideouts and have called on residents to remain vigilant.
