A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the alleged defilement of a 16-year-old schoolgirl in Bomet County, following a dramatic search led by the girl’s father and local Nyumba Kumi members.
According to police records at Ndanai Police Station, the incident was first reported by Hillary Bett, a resident of Olmegenyu village in Narok South Sub-County. Bett had escorted his daughter, a Form Two student at Ndanai Girls High School, to Ololung’a town on the morning of Tuesday, August 26, 2025, where she was expected to proceed to school for the new term.
However, concern arose later that evening when the girl’s class teacher contacted Bett to inform him that she had not arrived at school. Despite his efforts to trace her whereabouts, Bett was unsuccessful until August 29, when he received information that his daughter had been seen in Ndanai Township.
Acting swiftly, Bett, accompanied by Nyumba Kumi members, located the girl in a rental house where she was found with her alleged boyfriend, Weldon Rotich, aged 28. The two were immediately apprehended and taken to Ndanai Police Station. They were later escorted to Ndanai Sub-County Hospital for medical assessment, and a P3 form was filled to support the investigation. Statements from all involved parties were recorded.

The suspect, Rotich, is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, September 1, 2025, for plea taking and further legal proceedings.
Bomet County Police Commander Edward Imbwaga confirmed the arrest and assured the public that the matter is being handled with the seriousness it deserves.
