Mother Abandons 5-Month- Old at Migori Bus Park

In a deeply troubling incident that has stirred public concern, a five-month-old baby was found abandoned at Migori bus park under mysterious circumstances. Authorities are now working tirelessly to locate the child’s parents and ensure the infant’s safety.

According to eyewitnesses and local officials, the mother of the child approached a schoolgirl at the bus park and asked her to briefly watch over the baby while she went to retrieve something nearby. The girl, who was en route to school, agreed—only for the mother to vanish without a trace.

The child was later rescued by members of Bunge la Wananchi, a local civic group, who alerted the police and the Department of Children Services. The baby is currently in the care of child protection authorities as investigations continue.

Fredrick Ouma, chairperson of Bunge la Wananchi in Suna West sub-county, expressed shock and concern over the incident. “We urge the public to be cautious when strangers ask them to watch over children or belongings. This could be a ploy to abandon responsibility,” he said.

Winnie Atieno, another community advocate, called on the family of the abandoned child to come forward. “This child deserves love, care, and a safe home. We hope the family will do the right thing,” she added.

Local police, in collaboration with child welfare officers, have launched a search for the child’s parents. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the bus park and speaking with witnesses in hopes of identifying the woman who left the child behind.
