Rwandan Gospel Star Gogo Dies at 36 While on Ministry Tour in Uganda

Kampala, Uganda — September 4, 2025

The East African gospel music community is mourning the sudden loss of Rwandan singer Gloriose Musabyimana, popularly known as Gogo, who passed away at the age of 36 while on a ministry tour in Uganda.

Gogo’s death was confirmed early Thursday morning by her media manager, Bikem wa Yesu, who had accompanied her on the trip. In a heartfelt social media post, he wrote, “R.I.P Gogo, what sad news! God, strengthen my heart”.

The singer had traveled from Rwanda to Uganda on August 28 for a series of gospel events, beginning with a three-day crusade in Mbarara from August 29 to 31. She later continued to Kampala for additional engagements, including a performance at Pastor Wilson Bugembe’s church and promotional work with a local company.

While in Kampala, Gogo reportedly began feeling unwell. Initially, her team believed it was a recurrence of a condition she had previously managed. However, her health deteriorated rapidly, and she was rushed to Kyegera Doctors Center, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Born in 1989 in Rwanda’s Rwamagana District, Gogo rose to prominence through her deeply spiritual worship songs. Her breakout hit, “Every Day, I Need Blood of Jesus,” resonated widely across the region, followed by other popular tracks such as “Uwo Mwana”.

Despite losing both parents at a young age, Gogo remained rooted in her faith, growing up in the Anglican Church and using music as a vessel to inspire and uplift. Her voice and message touched thousands, making her one of Rwanda’s most beloved gospel artists.
