Two police officers from Kenya’s Border Patrol Unit lost their lives on Wednesday after their patrol vehicle struck an improvised explosive device (IED) along the Liboi–Kulan road in Garissa County. The blast, suspected to have been orchestrated by Somalia-based al-Shabaab militants, left the Land Cruiser mangled and scattered debris across the dusty road.
One died instantly at the scene, while another succumbed to injuries shortly after.Several remain in critical condition, with arrangements underway to transfer them to Nairobi for advanced medical care. The patrol car was ripped apart by the force of the explosion, underscoring the potency of the device.

The officers were on routine surveillance near the porous Kenya–Somalia border when militants detonated the device remotely as the vehicle approached. Security officials believe the ambush was carefully planned to target patrol units operating in the volatile region.
