Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of Kilifi Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official Aisha Abubakar. The arrests were made following a coordinated law enforcement operation backed by the Operation Support Unit (OSU) and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau.
Aisha Abubakar was tragically murdered on January 5, 2025, in a suspected robbery at her home in Utange, Mombasa County. The assailants broke into her house through a kitchen window, armed with a crowbar and knife. They knocked out her son before stabbing her to death and making away with several valuables.
The suspects were apprehended from different hiding spots in the Coastal Region. Several exhibits linking them to the crime, including phones belonging to Abubakar’s son, were recovered. Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack.
