Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has responded to threats of impeachment from Members of Parliament following his recent remarks on the surge of abductions in Kenya. Speaking at Kilimani Police Station on January 14, 2025, where he had gone to report the abduction of his son, Leslie Muturi, the CS challenged the MPs to proceed with the impeachment motion, stating that he is too seasoned to be intimidated by what he described as perfunctory statements from inexperienced politicians.
Muturi’s comments come in the wake of criticism from South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro, who demanded that the CS either resign or issue a public apology for his remarks. Osoro accused Muturi of failing in his Cabinet duties and disrespecting the government by airing grievances publicly instead of addressing them internally.
In his response, Muturi remained unbowed, asserting that he would not be cowed by the threats and emphasizing the importance of addressing the issue of abductions, which he said concerns all Kenyans. He reiterated his stance, stating, “I will just say bring it on. At my age, I am not the kind of person to respond to some perfunctory statements made by fairly inexperienced politicians. I think they’re not worthy of my response. So if anybody thinks that I don’t know what I was doing, they’re up for a rude shock”.
The CS’s remarks have sparked a political debate, with some MPs supporting the call for his impeachment while others defend his right to speak out on matters of national concern. The situation remains tense as the political landscape continues to evolve in response to Muturi’s bold stance.
