Embu, Kenya – In a devastating multi-vehicle accident on the Embu-Nairobi highway, one person lost their life, and two others sustained serious injuries. The tragic incident occurred near the sewage area around 8:30 p.m. on January 16, involving two lorries and a bus.
Eyewitnesses reported that one of the lorries, carrying maize, experienced a brake failure and collided with another lorry transporting firewood, which was undergoing inspection at a roadblock. The trailing bus, belonging to the Tahmeed company, crashed into the two lorries, shattering its windscreen and complicating rescue efforts.
Police and local residents spent over an hour extricating the trapped lorry drivers from the mangled wreckage using a breakdown truck. One lorry driver was found dead at the scene, while the other, along with a bus passenger, was taken to a nearby county hospital with serious injuries.
The incident led to a traffic snarl-up spanning three kilometers on both sides of the highway as rescue operations and onlookers halted movement.
Authorities continue to investigate the accident, and the wreckage has been towed to the Embu Police Station for further inspection.
This incident highlights the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures and effective emergency response tools to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
