Governor Joseph Ole Lenku of Kajiado County has officially commissioned the Matapato North borehole water project in Kajiado Central Sub-county. This project known as Maisikiria water project aims to provide a reliable water source for the residents of Matapato North and surrounding areas.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including Deputy Governor, Executive Committee Members, Chief Officers, and representatives from local organizations. Governor Lenku highlighted the importance of the project, stating, “Access to clean water is a fundamental right, and this project will greatly improve the lives of our people.”
The Matapato North borehole project is expected to address the long-standing water scarcity issues in the region. Women and children, who previously had to travel long distances to fetch water, will now have access to clean water closer to their homes. Additionally, the project will benefit livestock, reducing the need for long grazing journeys.
Governor Lenku also emphasized the project’s sustainability, noting that the borehole is fully solar-powered. This aligns with the county’s broader efforts to promote sustainable water resource management and enhance Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) services.
The commissioning of the Matapato North borehole project marks a significant milestone in Kajiado County’s commitment to improving the quality of life for its residents. With continued support from stakeholders and the community, the future of water accessibility in the region looks promising.
