Bondo, Siaya County, February 20, 2025 – A tragic incident occurred in Bondo, Siaya County, where two family members lost their lives and three others were hospitalized due to suspected food poisoning. The victims, who consumed a meal together, began experiencing severe stomach pains and other symptoms shortly after eating.

Local authorities and medical personnel were alerted, and the affected individuals were rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment. Despite the swift response, two of the family members succumbed to their illness, while three others remain hospitalized under medical care.
The incident took place at Kanyamelo village, Kanyadet sub-location, South West Gem location in Gem Sub-County. Police have launched an investigation into the matter. The deceased family members were identified as Ernest Ojigo Olum (father), aged 74 years, and John Otieno Ojigo (son), aged 5 years. The hospitalized family members are Deborah Adhiambo Ojigo (daughter), aged 19 years, Deborah Auma (niece), aged 19 years, and Val Adhiambo Ojigo (daughter), aged 2 years.
The cause of the food poisoning is currently under investigation, with samples of the suspected contaminated food being collected for analysis. Health officials have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any similar incidents to the authorities.
