Ilbissil Women Unite Against Forced Marriages in Maa Community

 

A disturbing incident in Kajiado Central involving a young lady being manhandled on a motorbike in an alleged case of forced marriage has sparked outrage among the women of Ilbissil. The incident, which quickly went viral, has drawn strong condemnation from the local community, particularly the women who are calling for justice and an end to such practices.

The young lady, whose identity remains undisclosed for her safety, was reportedly forced onto a motorbike by individuals attempting to marry her off against her will. This act of violence and coercion has highlighted the ongoing issue of forced marriages within the Maa community, a practice that continues to undermine the rights and freedoms of young women.

Women condemning early marriage practices

The women of Ilbissil have rallied together, demanding immediate action and stricter enforcement of laws against forced marriages. They have called for community education programs to raise awareness about the rights of women and the importance of consent in marriage. “We cannot allow our daughters to be treated as commodities. Every girl has the right to choose her own path in life,” said Eve Merin, a local women’s rights advocate in Kajiado county.
