Bethel for Jesus Church in Bomet County Pastor Arrested for Assault

On February 26, 2025, the Bomet County Police Commander announced the arrest of a pastor from the Bethel for Jesus Church. The pastor was taken into custody following allegations of assaulting a church member during a ritual intended to expel evil spirits. The incident occurred in Kapkwen, on the outskirts of Bomet town.

The victim, identified as Mercy Rono, reported the incident to the Kapkwen Police Station after escaping from the church. She sustained multiple bruises and was treated at the Bomet Health Centre before being referred back to the police for further documentation.

The Bomet County Police Commander, Edward Imbwaga, confirmed the arrest and stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the church’s registration status and operational history. The authorities have also launched a manhunt for other suspects involved in the incident.

The assault has sparked public outrage, with residents threatening to demolish the church if it is allowed to reopen. The police have urged the community to remain calm as they continue their investigations.

In a recent development, it has been announced that the pastor will be taken to court on Thursday, February 27, 2025. This move is seen as a step towards ensuring justice for the victim and addressing the concerns of the community.
