In a tragic turn of events, Kenyan police officer Samuel Kaetuai was killed during a peacekeeping mission in Haiti. The 26-year-old officer was shot dead in the Western Artibonite region, approximately 92 kilometers north of Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince. The incident occurred during a police operation aimed at neutralizing violent gangs that have been destabilizing the country.
Following the fatal shooting, Kaetuai’s body was repatriated to Kenya, where an autopsy was conducted at the Chiromo Mortuary in Nairobi on March 11, 2025. The pathologist’s report revealed that Kaetuai died from a single gunshot wound to the head. The bleeding caused by the gunshot wound was the primary reason for his death.

Kaetuai’s body arrived in Nairobi on March 10, 2025, and was received with full honors at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by a contingent of police officers, including Deputy Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli, Kaetuai’s family members, and other dignitaries. The body was then transferred to Chiromo Mortuary for preservation as burial preparations continued.
While the exact date of Kaetuai’s burial has yet to be established, it is expected to take place in his hometown of Kajiado. The government has assured that all burial expenses will be covered to ensure a dignified send-off for the fallen officer. Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja eulogized Kaetuai as a hero who lost his life in the line of duty while defending global peace. He acknowledged that Kaetuai was well-trained for the mission and that his death is a significant loss to the National Police Service.
