Security agencies in Kajiado County have intensified their vigilance at the Kenya–Tanzania border following a major drug bust earlier this week.
Kajiado County Police Commander Alex Shikondi issued a stern warning to traffickers attempting to smuggle narcotics into the country, stressing that officers are on high alert. “We are determined to ensure that no illegal consignment slips through our border. Anyone attempting to ferry narcotics will face the full force of the law,” he said.
Shikondi revealed that detectives are actively pursuing the main suspect believed to have been waiting in Nairobi to receive the intercepted consignment. The suspect is thought to be part of a wider network coordinating cross-border trafficking operations.
The warning comes just two days after a Kidia bus was impounded at Namanga on 20th January 2026, carrying sacks of bhang (cannabis) from Tanzania. The seizure has heightened concerns about the growing use of public transport vehicles in drug smuggling.

Namanga Customs Manager Nicholas Mugambi reaffirmed the Kenya Revenue Authority’s (KRA) commitment to working closely with police and other agencies to curb the menace. “We are strengthening collaboration to ensure that traffickers find no loopholes at the border. This is a collective fight to protect our communities,” Mugambi stated.
Authorities say the latest incident underscores the need for vigilance among transport operators and passengers alike, as traffickers increasingly exploit legitimate businesses to conceal their activities.
