Police in Tharaka Nithi County are investigating a heartbreaking incident in which a two-year-old girl lost her life after ingesting poisoned porridge that had reportedly been prepared to kill a dog.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in Kamathiuthiu Village, Kanjoro Location, Mukothima Sub-County. Authorities say the matter was reported by a local resident.

Preliminary findings suggest that a nine-year-old boy, while playing with other children, allegedly mixed poison into a bowl of porridge intending to feed it to a dog. Tragically, before the porridge could be given to the animal, the toddler drank it while seated at her grandfather’s doorstep.

She collapsed shortly afterward and was pronounced dead. Police officers visited the scene to document the case, and the child’s body was transferred to Marimanti Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.

Investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
