Residents of Kihuri village in Iriaini ward, Othaya, Nyeri County were thrown into mourning on Thursday November 2025 after a man allegedly killed his wife before taking his own life. The heartbreaking incident has left the community shaken, as the couple was widely regarded as peaceful and happy in their marriage.
Confirming the tragedy, Iriaini Ward MCA Wambari Nyoko expressed deep sorrow, noting that the two had always been seen as living harmoniously. “It is shocking because they were known to live happily. This is a painful reminder that we must learn to share our struggles rather than suffer in silence,” he said. Nyoko urged residents to avoid resorting to such extreme actions and instead confide in family, friends, or trusted individuals when facing challenges.
Following the incident, the bodies of the deceased were moved to the Nyeri County Referral Hospital mortuary, where they are preserved awaiting postmortem examinations. Authorities have launched investigations to establish the circumstances that led to the tragedy, including possible domestic disputes or underlying issues that may have gone unnoticed.
Police officers from Othaya have already begun recording statements from neighbors and relatives to piece together the events leading up to the deaths. Investigators are also expected to consult medical experts to determine whether mental health challenges may have played a role.
