In a heartbreaking turn of events, Sylvia Kemunto, a first-year student at Multimedia University of Kenya, was found dead in a rooftop water tank within the university premises. Sylvia, who was pursuing a double major in Mass Communications and Computer Science, had been reported missing on Sunday, March 30, 2025. Her decomposed body was discovered on Wednesday, April 2, following an extensive search initiated by her family and the university administration.

The discovery was made after a foul smell emanating from Block E caught the attention of the search team. Investigations revealed that Sylvia had been strangled and struck with a blunt object before her body was concealed in the water tank. The motive behind this heinous act remains unclear, but police have identified her boyfriend, a fellow student, as the prime suspect in the case. Witnesses reported seeing the suspect dragging a suitcase, believed to contain Sylvia’s body, from her room to his residence in a different block.
Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Geoffrey Kihara expressed his sorrow over the tragic incident and assured the university community that the administration is cooperating fully with law enforcement to ensure justice is served. “It is clear that on the day Sylvia was reported missing, the suspect entered her room. The police are working tirelessly to locate him and bring him to justice,” Prof. Kihara stated.
